Improving Your Posture Through Exercise
Is America slouching? It’s not a trick question. Getting proper alignment of one’s body can be achieved with strengthening the muscles of the upper back and shoulders. Have you ever noticed how ballet dancers walk? Dancers are trained to pose themselves correctly. Proper alignment is important to them. If you are ever thinking about your posture maybe you should try a ballet class. Can’t find a class? Try some yoga. Yoga is excellent for posture. Can’t find a yoga class? Look for a video from an online fitness store or through your local library or bookstore. Another great exercise that helps with alignment is Pilates.
Pilates helps train you to use your core. Having stronger abdominal and back allows shoulders to relax as well as the neck and head. Good posture helps alleviate back and neck pain. Allows muscles to move more freely, improves our circulation and makes us feel more confident. And if you haven’t thought of strength training maybe it’s time to start. As we age we lose bone density. We start losing bone density as early in our twenties. If you maintain good strong muscles and bones, you might just keep your posture upright and stay forever young in the process.
