A Bonsai Under the Tree- Getting it Home for Christmas
With the rapid approach of the holiday season, some people who are looking at treating a friend or loved one to a bonsai tree for Christmas had better start giving some thought about how to set up to have it delivered at a time and to a place that will work for both you and this living tree. It’s probably not such a big deal in the southern states but in the north you must take into account that once it gets cold outside, it’s going to affect your shipping. Why is that? Well consider if you will, a lovely indoor ficus bonsai, removed from a greenhouse that successfully mimics the tropics, hot- sunny, moist. Now take this lovely tree, pack it into a box and sit it in a freezing cold truck for a few days. This doesn’t work and no reputable greenhouse will ship a tropical tree in weather that’s too cold for it to survive – like say what you’ll get in mid December. (more…)
